Island Fantasy Ball is this weekend in Nanaimo! Since it’s an out-of-town competition, I thought it would be a good time to bring out my old Competition Checklist again. I’ve posted it quite a few times, but I think it’s a good reminder so that you don’t forget anything for your trip!
Ballet versus Ballroom Training Approachhttps://jcdanceco.ca/wp-content/themes/corpus/images/empty/thumbnail.jpg150150Clara ShihClara Shihhttps://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/db056bd225dccb38a644dbd8879acdfc?s=96&d=mm&r=g
Everyone knows that ballet is a very technically demanding form of dance. The strength, balance, flexibility and precision required to dance ballet is quintessential. No one would argue that fact. However, in ballroom dancing, for whatever reason, the strength, balance and flexibility that all dancers admire and respect, seem to fall by the wayside and the focus is more on learning steps and routines.
Re-igniting the Passion to Dancehttps://jcdanceco.ca/wp-content/themes/corpus/images/empty/thumbnail.jpg150150Clara ShihClara Shihhttps://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/db056bd225dccb38a644dbd8879acdfc?s=96&d=mm&r=g
What better way to re-ignite the passion inside of you than to spend a couple days with your lovely coach and mentor? After having 2 full days packed with lessons, lectures and workshops, we are re-inspired again to dance from within, to search for the truth and to pass it on to our beloved students!

It was yet another fun-tastic event at the UBC Gala Ball this past weekend!!! You never really know what to expect, as the executives are always a brand-new group of kids every year, presented with this massive undertaking of putting on a full-on competition for the local DanceSport community. This year, the execs showed everyone their unbridled spirit and enthusiasm towards dancing, that (as I know from experience) can only come out of being at the UBC Dance Club!
I’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about our Performance Teams lately, so I thought I’d answer a few common questions. Hopefully I will be able to address what the difference is between a Performance Team and Formation Team, and the benefits of joining a team of dancers, as opposed to social dancing or being involved in competitive DanceSport.
With the 50th Anniversary of the UBC Gala Ball coming up next weekend, Joel and I are reminiscent of our earlier UBC days. There is so much history involved between us and the UBC Dance Club that we just can’t help getting sentimental over it all. We had our video interview with Olivia Yung (UBC Dance Club Bookings Rep) the other day, and we had a lot of fun recounting old stories. Here are some of the top 5 highlights…

Venue, dress, catering… check, check, check. Invitations sent out… check. Now what’s left for your wedding preparations? Plan your First Dance at your Wedding! It’s really the only part in your whole wedding day where you and your fiance are up to your own. No minister or official telling you what to say, no photographer telling you where to stand, no wedding planner telling what’s next.

Clara showed me some of the feedback from our Robson Square show on her Facebook wall the other day. Among all the very cool comments (which btw, thanks everyone!), there was a question posted about whether or not I make the same sounds I did during our solo Waltz demonstration as I did in competition.
